Re: Kids school supplies
We have nachos, pizza, fried chicken salad, and some kind of pasta every day, and there is a homestyle entree that changes. It is generally chicken nuggets, french toast sticks/bacon, crispitos, hamburger, taco/burrito, salsbury steak, or triple decker PBJ.

Re: Kids school supplies
Me too. I think it is also good for kids to learn to look after their own things.

I would hope a teacher would notice destructive kids anyway, but none the less I think being responsible for your own things is an important lesson. I wouldn't mind if they had back ups that parents could supply with extra packs or whatever just in case, but I'd much rather DS have to keep track of his own things. My students have their own white boards that I provide, so asking them for the markers is fair imo. I always buy extra but by Octoberish everyone needs new ones! They get expensive if I would have to provide for all 32 of my students. So we do ask for the parents to send in a few throughout the year

Re: Kids school supplies
I remember when I was a kid, if you didn't bring your own crayons, you'd have to use the teachers coffee can full of old broken pieces. Just a random thought.

Re: Kids school supplies
I was looking over my kinder list again, and they are not asking for crayons, scissors, glue etc. It is a lot of the classroom supplies that they use daily that they can not get from the district.
I will send in my son's supplies and then throughout the year send in some of the items on the list. I know that many of our families won't be able to afford the items on the list and won't bring them in. One way to help your fab teachers is to vote for their school. Target Gives will give $1 for each vote. My school is going to give the gift cards to the new teachers, as they are just starting out with their classrooms. Re: Kids school supplies
I didn't have a problem sending things in to the private school ds went to last year, but I would have a MAJOR problem with being asked to send in all that stuff! Especially since they get so much money for my child's enrollment in their school! Our schools don't ask you to send so much in though. I saw the list at dollar general and it is very, very little that the schools here ask you to send, and none of it is "community".

Re: Kids school supplies
Most of the private schools around here use tuition money to pay teacher salaries. The private school that DD went to for preschool (preschool-12th grade) sends out a spreadsheet of the budget, and I know that there is not a dime in there anywhere to cover supplies. Their supplies fee covers things like art supplies and gym equipment.
