Not a single drop of milk all day.., so, she went 7:30-3:30 with no fluids. She ate her breakfast and lunch baby food (2 ice cube's of food for each meal) but that was it. I got teared up as soon as the sitter told me. I just don't know what to do.
Anyone??? |

Re: dd won't take a bottle. HELP!!!
I guess as a sitter I would have constantly tried all day. I have heard of babies doing this though and start cluster feeding at night.

She will drink water, juice, and Pedialyte out of her bottle and sippy. She just won't drink my milk out of a bottle (although she was before I was home with her for summer break). I've got a call into the doctor to find out if it is even ok to let her go that long without drinking. She is dairy free and soy free... I'm considering letting her try some hypoallergenic formula when she is at the sitters to see how she does. Since she'll drink things besides my milk out of a bottle I wonder if she'd take it. I really don't want her on any formula but she needs to be getting the calories she needs to feed her brain and body. Thanks for the help- its appreciated.

How's it going Mama? I'd ask the sitter to be consistent with offering the bottle. Maybe she will accept it after a while.
Do any of her solids have fat or protein in them? Meat, legumes, cheese, olive oil, coconut oil, butter, avocado, etc? If not, maybe you could introduce some of those foods plus water or pedialyte in the sippy. Then she would be getting more complete nutrition through the day. What about spoon feeding the breastmill, sipping from an open cup, or a "Momsicle?" It has only been a couple of days, I know it is stressful because mine did the same thing, but don't give up yet!

If she will take the pedialyte, maybe try 1/2 and 1/2 of that with your milk?

Have someone else do bottle when you LEAVE the house, completely. And have patience. It can take time.

Our sitter is a saint. Not only does she use our cloth diapers with no complaints but she has been more than willing to try any sippy cups, bottles, open cups, etc. My daughter has been eating all of her breakfast and lunch purées so she is getting some liquids that way. Her diapers definitely get drier as the day goes on I have noticed while unpacking her wetbag, but they still have some pee in them. The sitter says that she isn't screaming out of hunger all day or anything. I talked to her ped today to just check on the lack of fluids. They said that she is ok to go that long. Not ideal, but ok. They said that they would be more concerned about the lack of calories. She is in the 90th %ile so i'm not really concerned about that right now. They offered some samples of Alimentum to see if she would take that in a bottle since it would be completely different and have nothing to do with me. I put it in a bottle and let her just kind of "play" with it. She happily sucked on it for 10 minutes or so popping on and off the bottle while sitting up against my husband and then me. She only took an ounce the whole time but was so relaxed and content instead of defensive. If we would lay her back in our arm in traditional bottle-giving position she would cry and push the bottle away. Just a bit ago I gave her 3 oz of breastmilk in her sippy. My husband sat in the family room with her just watching tv and relaxing. He had her on his lap with her back to him so she could lean into him. Her put the sippy on her lap and let her kind of dictate when she was interested and wanting to drink. When she would try and pull it up, he would help guide it in her mouth. She ended up drinking all 3 oz and then crying when it was gone! I can't believe it. So, maybe bottles are out and we'll just use her sippy cup when she is at the sitters house. Sounds fair to me. We'll see if she'll accept the sippy with breastmilk at the sitter's tomorrow.
Thanks so much for the support. It's much appreciated. |

So happy it sounds like you are making progress. I don't really have anything new to add, but I wanted to read all the posts. Good news on the sippy cup - hope it works out!
