Re: Is my DD starting her period???
Some of these stories are hilarious
![]() I was 14 when I got mine, I remember it very well because it was of course awful, lol. I was in 8th grade algebra class and felt that telltale "wet" feeling. No cramps, headaches, nothing, so I had no clue what was going on. Asked to be excused to the restroom only to find that AF was indeed in town and had just ruined my brand new white Billabong shorts I had no idea what to do, there was no way I could go back to class with my shorts like that!My middle school was across the street from the elementary school in the small town where we lived, and that's where the nurse's office was. I snuck out into the hallway, out the front door, and crawled through the bushes to the crosswalk. Our crossing guard was a little old lady who lived next door to the school and hung out on her porch reading all day in case any kids needed to cross. I told her I needed to see the nurse and she asked to see my pass, which of course I didn't have. I started to cry and moved my hands away from my shorts, and she saw what happened and walked me across the street and took me to the nurse herself - she stood right in front of me so no one could see. The nurse called my mom then called my math teacher to tell him I wouldn't be coming back to class, thank god she didn't say why lol. At least I got to go home early lol

Re: Is my DD starting her period???
When I started mine (12 -- in 7th grade) I was wearing Flintstones undies. I didn't tell my mom...just snuck in her room to get pads. She found out some time later and wanted to see if I had hair. I remember how terrible & awkward it was...and that was exactly why I hid it from her!

Re: Is my DD starting her period???
Wow, it always surprises me to see that some girls start so early! My grandma was 12, my mom was 15 and I was 12.
OP, my first one was exactly like that. When I went to bed one night, I noticed some faint pink blood. I thought it was probably just from straining too hard. The next morning, I went to wipe and yep...it was definitely my period!

Natasha- I some how missed this thread. Hows your DD doing?
My first period was so weird I dont even feel like reliving it. So was anything feminine for quite a few years. My mother is so NOT motherly. She never once uttered a word about periods or sex to me. I learned it all from friends, my cousin or in school. Amanda . Blaming my phone for typos and crap.

Re: Is my DD starting her period???
I don't remember my first period but I do remember the first time I tried a tampon in my early teens. I was at my dad's house (my parents are divorced) for the weekend when AF showed up unexpectedly. At that time I had only used pads. My step sister provided me with a tampon, assuming I had used them before. I was too embarrassed to ask for instructions figuring it couldn't be that difficult. So I undid the wrapper, inserted the plastic applicator, put my pants back on and thought this is really uncomfortable. Seriously, I didn't know I was supposed to remove the plastic thing! I walked around a few minutes, tried to sit and thought 'how do people wear these things!' I took out the tampon, applicator and all and threw it away. Then had to tell my dad to go to the store and buy me some pads. Embarrassing!

anyway, I totally left the plastic thingy on them too, and thought they were terrible, but by the 3rd DAY I had enough of that thing and took it off, put it up there and thought, wow, that's much better... I wonder if anyone had figured out that it's much better without the plastic thingy? lol I soon found OB tampons and my mom had asked me by the 3rd AF if I had started yet, I told her I did, and she started bawling asking me why I didn't tell her.. I didn't know it was something I had to share. ![]() My daughter is going to be 8 in about 2 weeks, and I noticed the other day that she needs a training bra, that I'm not going to have ANY luck getting her to wear. ugh. I can't even get her to wear underwear! I'll just have to keep her out of the tshirts that are made out of polyester and hang on her funny.. kinda shows it off, if you know what I mean. UGH. I wasn't expecting to have to deal with that at 8 years old, that's for sure. I didn't have anything until I was 12, and AF started at 12 as well. ugh, I hope it doesn't mean we're going to be dealing with AF anytime soon.

My first one came at a bad time. Christmas Eve when I was 13 1/2. The cramps on Christmas Day were horrible, and when the entire family was asking me what was wrong. My mom told them all what was wrong.
My poor sister on the other hand. Had it worse. Her 13 birthday is when it came. She was at a theme park, and her great grandmother died that day too. |
