When I went to the one wheel dealer local that sells everything (pretty much) but Schacht, I was not impressed. Lots of the wheels seemed cheap and flimsy and had obvious limitations. I went to another lady not realizing that she ONLY dealt Schacht because she had free classes that were not timed, she worked with you until you got it where the other lady charged $15 per half hour and would help customers WHILE the "clock" was running.. I sat down at the sidekick and then the ladybug and then the matchless and I was so blown away. It was no contest. She had some Reeves too but I dont have the space (or ability to justify the price) for a castle wheel, as amazingly awesome as they are. I need to either stop having kids or sell some of the ones I have (or both?!) before I get one of those. I didn't even try them so I couldnt know how amazing they were.

I made a pinterest crock pot roast tonight.
Roast, veggies, water, one pack of brown gravy, ranch dressing, and Italian dressing packs. :yum:

I've been reading along with y'all. Someday I will have a beautiful spinning wheel. Somebody will need to teach me to spin first though.

I would love to know how to spin, my LYS has a wheel sitting in the corner. I know nothing about spinning or wheels though. I don't really get how you spin roving into something that looks like yarn w/those drop spindles. A lady at my knitting group is always using one of those and it looks like she always has lace wt yarn come out of it. It sound like different wheels (and maybe drop spindles too?) spin different wts?

Maybe some day....

ds is being weird right now

knit a few rows on the sweater but not much else on the knitting front. I had to do a major vacuuming due to the ants and I organized the under the sink cabinet and cleaned all the cabinet faces and appliances.

I really want the ants gone! It poured from about 4 o'clock on..so I am expecting to wake up to more ant parades in the am. I sprayed poison outside the doors where they were coming in. I hate to use that stuff but there were so many I couldn't let them keep pouring inside.

off to get a snack and watch some more Weeds...sooo hooked.

it depends on a lot of things... fiber is a bunch of hairs that are not stacked end to end like ||||| they are more like |li| (best I can do on a keyboard, work with me!) so when you "draft" the fiber out, it spreads the fiber really thin and staggers the hairs even more, allowing there to always be ends gripping to middles of others so there is no break. A drop spindle uses gravity (generally speaking there are tons and not all work this way I am trying to make this simple) and inertia provided by the spinner to apply a twist to the drafted fiber, making it stronger so it cant continue to pull itself apart. the harder the spinner twists and the slower she provides more fiber decides how much twist is in each section.

Now, a wheel does all this for you. you get the wheel spinning by applying pressure with your foot, up and down and you spin your yarn in a single direction so when you take your singles (each strand, you know this, is a single) you ply it in the other direction so you apply a ply twist but not untwist the singles. there are hooks around the bobbin so it puts it on the bobbin evenly and it pulls the spun fiber in and twists the bobbin, all this is happening due to the treadle going up and down.
