Taking the bottle away and sleeping

I have a question about waking up at night. What do you do to get them to go back to sleep? My son is 14 months old and almost off the bottle. He only takes one at night but when he does wake up (few times a week) the only way he will go back to sleep is with the bottle. Im nervous to take it away and loose more sleep :/

Re: Taking the bottle away and sleeping

well, when we took it away from our oldest (who just turned SEVEN!) we gave him nothing, it was a VERY rough couple of nights. i don't think it lasted more than a week though and it taught me with my next two, to just not let them have a bottle at night! that way we never had to take it away (although i suppose it really helped that neither of those two EVER liked a bottle). i don't know if there really is anything you can give him, other than some extra attention/cuddles while he's sad about it. Lame, but chances are he'll keep waking up for it for a loooong time if you don't just cut him off at some point...the good new is, he WILL eventually stop waking up and wanting it! Weather it's because you take it away or he just grows out of it, he will stop. Sometimes remembering that can help...

Re: Taking the bottle away and sleeping

When we took my sons bottle away just before age 2 we had to go cold turkey because he wouldn't take anything else as a replacement. My daughter is 9 months and I wake her up before I go to bed and feed her when I stop doing that if she wakes I will just go in and lay her down. She is pretty good at falling asleep unassisted. I should say my son pretty much slept with his bottle and when we took it away it was about 3 days before he would go down without crying because he didn't have it.
