Re: The Big September Purge

I'm in! I will be purging clothes. I'm thinking about piling all of our clothes in the living room on Saturday and only putting back what we want to keep. Anyone done it this way?

What are your goals and plans everyone?

Goal: 500 items
Hotspots to purge:
*Consignment closet (pic below-eek!)
*Garage
*My closet
*Master bath
[bonus points-downstairs chifferobe]

Consignment drop-off is Sunday, so I'll be working on the consignment closet this week. I entered tags for 61 items during nap time, but I still have tons to do! I won't count my consignment items as gone until they are physically out of the house!

I think it's a great idea providing you do it all right away. If you think you'll get sidetracked maybe do one persons clothes at a time.

I still haven't got my list of goals done but I'm hoping to get to it tonight

I've tried one persons at a time and I never get completely done. We will do it as a family I think. That way we will all be motivated to finish it asap!

I would add other goals but I have a super heavy schedule right now and don't want to try and set myself up for too much. Not really purging Dh has a couple though. He wants to get the shed completely converted to a chicken coop and also to get the house ready for winter which includes roofing the house with help from his dad.....

Re: The Big September Purge

So after pondering this for a few days I've decided on 2 things.

Kids toys
My sewing stuff

Both are huge things for me, not extreme, but areas that I tend to avoid.

I think mine is going to be paper. I found a shred event at the end of September so I need to get my bottom in gear.

Re: The Big September Purge

-Today I added some toys to the consignment pile. The kids need to nap so i can start entering them into the system.
-I got rid of three supplies with missing parts.
-took photos of two headboards and one complete bedroom set we have tired in the basement and are not using. Finally go dh to agree to list them on a local f/s/t to help offset the cost of having to completely gut and start over on the shower in the master bath. Ugh!
I wonder what else I can get him to agree to sell?

I did a few paper hot spots. Eek! I hate paper clutter more than anything at all. This basket is full of stuff to be shredded. I have 3 small store bags full of trash as well. I have 3 weeks to get this done but I hate procrastination.

I used to do this-putting ALL of my clothes on the bed. We ended up sleeping in the guest room.

Now I just make sure I have 25-50 things to consign at my local store each season. In fact, I made my dropoff appointment today!

BUT I think it's a great idea...I couldn't imagine what an empty closet would look like!
