TV-free?

Not sure if this counts as being "non-traditional", but does anyone have tips on how to manage 2 kids (3.5 yo girl and a 5 month old boy) without the help of TV? We don't actually have cable or even the "free channels" but I've been relying on DVDs and netflix a lot more that I'd like to since my son was born (and even while I was big, pregnant, and tired).. I try to set up activities for her, and sometimes that works, but sometimes she wants me to do them with her and the only way I can get my son down for a nap is to offer a DVD Any advice?
