I know he's almost 30", but how close is he to the top of the shell?

If he's still got more than 1.5", I'd take the infant seat.
If he has less than 1.5", I'd take a convertible (Get a lightweight one; DONT take the Peg).
If he has less than 1", you need to stop using that infant seat now.

I always travel with lightweight strollers, so, I'd take the Aria.

He is a touch more than 1" away. I'm just waiting for the convertible to be delivered. I plan to switch him over for general use right when we get it but we are leaving in a little more than a week. I am not really worried about the plane portion, I would buy a lightweight just for that, but we will be driving all over New England and I really want him in a super safe seat, even if it's a PITA to lug with us.
