DH doesn't really like to store things in the fridge either. I think it's just a personal preference. I do leave our bread out here, in either a bread bag or airtight tupperware & we only slice as it's needed. That helps to keep the loaf from going stale faster. If it starts to get hard/stale, you just loose a piece of the end, not all the slices. If we aren't going to use it right away or it's not getting eaten up fast enough, I'll pop it in the fridge or store it in the freezer. But other than that, I generally agree with you here. It's just hard when you don't use preservatives & most people think bread should last longer b/c it's based on what you are used to getting from the store.... which isn't even fresh!
