Sadly yes, they are very prone to catching human colds and because they are so small they tend to get really sick very fast and there's nothing that can be done to help them.

Where did you get it? Target? I was just there yesterday, but shopping with DH is no fun. Plus Lydia doesn't need clothes. Bella does though. I got her a few things on clearance at Fleet Farm yesterday

It seems odd that the whole time I went to elementary school we had hamsters as class pets that lived relatively long lives. Maybe it is the Syrian hamsters that are fragile like that? Otherwise I would think it would make a really bad kids pet. My hamsters as a kid never died from colds either. Sump pump, tumors and sump pump respectively.
