Portable booster seat for car

We need an extra carseat for short trips across town in the car that we rarely use (also for grandmother's car). Does anyone have a portable booster seat they would recommend? I anticipate taking it in and out of the car. Being compact, safe, and easy to install are important features for us. TIA!

Graco makes an awesome booster-rated one of the best on consumer reports and is very reasonably priced. We got ours at Target, Walmart has it too, but I liked the colors at Target better. It is just a seat w/ arms and pull out cup holders-super easy to install and light to move from car to car.

Re: Portable booster seat for car

It totally depends on the child's age, weight, height & vehicle year, make, model.

Boosters are a vital step, but one that must not be rushed -- harnessed seats are safer than boosters ... especially for preschoolers who don't yet have the cognitive development associated with the attention span necessary to use a booster correctly. A booster can only keep kids safe if the child remains properly positioned for the entire length of every ride. A booster is only safer than a harnessed seat if the harnessed seat cannot/will not be used correctly + if the booster will be used correctly.

Oh boy! I was using the wrong terminology. What I need is a portable convertible carseat. DS is 2 yrs old, 37 in, and weighs 31 lbs.
