No pantry and very little cabinet space...

We went apartment shopping today and found a great place in our budget. The kitchen is TINY. Lol There is no pantry, just some normal above and bellow cabinet space. We had this in our first apartment as newlyweds, but didn't have kids then. Kids = more food. Lol

Has anyone else felt with this? There isn't a ton of space to put a freestanding pantry, and they are expensive, but Ai will get one if I have to.

How about something like the IKEA Billy floor to ceiling bookshelf with doors in the dining room? It only pushes out about a foot and you can adjust the shelves to hold your food.

I had those and really liked them! They were on the fridge. I've moved on to a more traditional spice rack now that I have the cabinet space, but it did work well. Make sure if you do that, get ones that are solid, not clear fronted, and close air tight. That helps your spices stay fresh longer.

Do you have a habitat for humanity restore near you?

We just purchased 4 brand new pantry cabinets. It was $160/pantry. The owner told us he could order more for us if needed. We've already done one and it's fantastic how much it stores. Plus it's only 15" wide so good for narrow spaces.

The only possible set back is that I would recommend anchoring it to the wall or something to add stability.

Do you have space above your upper cabinets, or do you have a soffit? we had a galley kitchen with no pantry, little cabinet space due to microwave and sink placement, but there was an eight foot run of space on top od the upper cabinets with enough height to put file boxes. we also ran a board across from one side of the upper cabinets to the other, on each end of the galley, so we had six more linear feet on each side to put mot file boxes.

I am not sure, but that is a great idea if I am thinking about it right. I will definitely look at it once we move in.
