What You Want to Know About Sperm

Men have a cycle too and it helps us to know it. If your DH has no fertility issues he makes a new batch of millions of sperm every 74 days. This means since the 74th day after he began making sperm, he has a new batch EVERYDAY to be used. This is evolutionary as it makes him capable of being ready at any second to impregnate.

Once the sperm enters the seminal fluid, it becomes motile, as that liquid has the sugars that fule the one mitochondria (fule making center) in the tail. After ejaculation the semen and sperm whom die from acidity of the vagina protect the ones that survive in the center. Once they enter the EWCM they travel up, against gravity to get in the cervix. Not all will find the mucus strands to travel up. They then get into the cervix and some will not make it out.

For those sperm that make it out into the vast uterus, they are attacked by the immune system. This is what protects our babies when they are in there, so it is an agressive system of defense. Many will die in here fas. Of those who result, only a few will choose the right tube. The others will not make it. Traveling down the tube does not mean reaching an egg. Sperm have no sense of what to try to penetrate and some will attack the tubal wall. The good news is all the false penetration works down the enzyme cap, the head of the sperm, so it is mature and ready when it does find the egg. If we are lucky only few hundred are left to attack the egg and it takes the enzyme caps of many to break through the zona to get to the egg's actual membrane.

This is why we need to BD often, so there are more sperm to survive to get to the egg.

Great info! The Great Sperm Race is a fun and informational documentary about the life of sperm (exactly what you posted above) but they film it on a human scale. My husband and I just watched it a couple weeks ago. You can watch it in 10 minute increments on youtube. I thought it was pretty amazing!
