Pitting Edema

Fun, Fun. I started swelling more than usual yesterday. I continued to swell through the night, with increasing pitting edema when I would get up to pee. All day I have been quite swollen. I can leave 1/2" deep indents on my legs that stay for 1-2 minutes. I did this some at the end of my last pregnancy and had altered kidney function and occasional high BPs but nothing serious developed. (I never had any real swelling in any other pregnancy) This time I am 21 weeks....GRRRR. I check my BP and it was fine. I see the Dr on Tuesday, but if it gets much worse I might just call in tomorrow AM. Just wanted to have a brief complaint!

Re: Pitting Edema

Sorry! I had it too when I was working (now home on bed rest). I was in and out of the car in the hot Florida sun all summer, and my feet were giant by the time I came home.

My BP is high and I'm happy to be not working and home, able to put my feet up.

Hope you get good news when you see the Dr. Take it easy!

I had it last time too but I can't remember when it started. I'm 21 weeks now and it hasn't started yet (fingers crossed). I just joined the YMCA this morning so I can go swim laps before work and hopefully keep my weight in check while keeping the pressure out of my pelvis and off my legs

Mine was like that last time too... and probalby started around 25 weeks or so. My MWs were never concerned if it was "just" the swelling. My urine was always fine and my BP didn't start to creep until the very end. They just told me wear the compression stockings, go swimming (the legs hanging down in the deep water could help push the fluid back up towards the heart - never seemed to help me though), putting feet up, drinking water...

Re: Pitting Edema

I have been there in a serious way. With my last pregnancy, by the time I delivered I was in SO much pain. They had to give me more fluid while I was in labor and right after I delivered (another thread). I literally could get my legs off the bed or move on my own for over 24hrs after I delivered. I lost 50lbs in 10 days, more than I'd gained. I'm sorry you are dealing with it.
