I've been contemplating one as a backup machine. Which one are you looking at?

I used patternreview.com for their sewing machine/serger review section. It was the best review site I found. You can search by name and model. The reviews go back a while. I think you need to sign up, but it helped me make my decision.

Re: serger prices???

I have a Janome 634D MyLock and i LOVE LOVE it! It took me a little bit to get the threading just right but it is my first serger and first time ever using a serger! I got it because a WAHM that makes around 15+ diapers a DAY highly recommended it! It was bought for me as a birthday gift but my grandma paid $599 for it.

Re: serger prices???

I have a Janome. I can't say I have used it TONS, but what I have used it for, I love! I don't remember the model number, but it's a $600 serger new (which I NEVER could have afforded) and I got it for $60 off craigslist. It's an older model, but the way I see it, sometimes, the older, the better. If you buy used, look up reviews first, then ask to sew on it before you buy it. Also, you'll want to make sure they provide the manual with it. But buying used could be the way to go.

Re: serger prices???

I have a Juki MO 735.....it's a $999 serger new....but its a 2/3/4 w/ coverstitch machine. I bought it online as a warrantied refurb from a dealer...so I think I pd about $700 w/ shipping. I use it a LOT, had it 2 years. Juki sergers are the same as Bernina sergers (juki makes the mechanicals for bernina sergers)....mine is equivelant to the Bernina 1300D which is twice the price, it just doesn't have the LCD screen (I don't need no stinkin screen LOL). Have been very happy the tension is reliable and the stitches are even (unlike the 3 other sergers I had before that one).
