Re: What is your everyday solution for HARD water?

Does it matter if it is liquid or powder? So really, anything goes as far as brand and type (f&c or regular)?

I have been having laundry issues lately too due to hard water and build up. Original Tide is the best detergent so far, but they're not all 100% clean every wash. I'm going to get Calgon tomorrow. Does anyone use Calgon and vinegar?

I havw hard water and I've been using Wisk Deep Clean and it works great. This detergent has a water softener in it which is nice. Ever since I ditched Tide and Gain and switched to this I haven't had any problems.

I wonder if Purex F&C would be ok on or synthetic materials?

This isn't necessarily so. There's a lot of bad info out there against cd safe detergents.

I have a lot of success with Country Save, all over the country with hard and soft water. I've tried all the mainstream detergents and they all fail eventually.

I've also read big cautions against vinegar in hard water. It's good for dishes but apparently encourages minerals to precipitate out and deposit in cloth? I'm not sure I understand the process but it's bad.

Re: What is your everyday solution for HARD water?

I agree with the PP who suggested installing a water softener. We bought one at Sears about 4 years ago when we moved to this house....our water sounds a lot like yours. Our cost was about $600 for the softener, DH installed it himself (and believe me, he's not the handiest guy around.) We were having stinky issues with ALL laundry, not just diapers. It's been a lifesaver.

Our plumber friend told us our softener was a great investment - some of our neighbors have had to replace water heaters, washing machines, etc. in the first 3-4 years of owning their homes because the mineral buildup ruined everything.
