Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
Our kids get spoiled by grandparents. We do one big gift (play kitchen, trampoline, bike, etc), and a few small things (books, small toys, accessories, helmets, etc). They have tons of toys. DD1 (3) is getting a big girl bed for Christmas this year.

Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
We do that, simply b/c we're broke. LOL No, in all seriousness, I think that is a great idea. MUCH better than my BIL and his inlaws...it takes them TWO WHOLE DAYS to open gifts b/c they buy so much (and last Christmas they only had two children!). Their house is packed with toys.

Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
I'm going to try to downsize this year as well. Ok, try is the key word.
I get so caught up in all the things the kids will love. I'm done buying plastic noisy toys for ds. He will have wooden toys this year. For his b-day he got the Melissa and Doug train and LOVES it. He also has his wooden tracks and Thomas trains he loves. I will probably buy Playmobil for him.I'm going to try to keep the gifts at 4 each. I won't buy them books or pjs or clothes b/c they have enough already. And my Grandma always sends them Barnes & Noble gift cards for Xmas.

Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
We limit it to 7 gifts per child but only for time saving purposes. Those seven do not included Santa gifts, which are around 15-20 per kid. Out of the 7 The list is 1. A new outfit ,2. The big gift from Mom and dad (the thing they wanted the most) 3.A gift from sibling (to open on x-mas eve) 4-7 anything that we picked out that they would like.
We spend the night over at my parents on Christmas eve and my parents always buy everyone brand new Christmas pajamas.

Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
I didn't read through so I'm sorry if this was already posted.
We do three -- the number Jesus received -- in the J-O-Y theme. One about Jesus. One to share with Others. One for You. We don't do Santa but I usually put toothbrushes and other little necessities in their stockings. We also bake a cake that morning and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. This is their favorite part -- really who doesn't like cake for Brunch?

Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
oh yes, we do stockings too. Our stockings always include personal care items that are needed. Toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, underwear, etc

Re: Christmas presents- limit number per child...question
We do "something to share" instead of something to wear. Board games, sports equipment that needs two to play etc.
So, want, need, share, read. Plus a couple of things from mum and dad and something from each other. And a stocking. Gee, that still sounds like too much listed out like that, doesn't it? Plus what they receive from extended family. Who are now mostly receptive to working from a very specific list. As they get older (7 and 4 yr old's, ds) they ask for specific things. Rock climbing gear like dad, a particular lego set. And as it's something they REALLY want, they are super happy to receive it and don't go worrying about quantity. |
