Waldorf Dolls
I am having difficulty finding a doll maker in the US which dolls I like. (suggestions welcome) I really want to get the kids back to basics with toys and would love for my daughter to have one. Is it completely insane for me to believe I could teach myself to make these dolls before Christmas? Probably, even so can you ladies suggest any resources and where the best place to start is?
TIA

Yea, I came across those in my search. Hope it comes with all you need. Still much cheaper.

Re: Waldorf Dolls
Weir tells you what is missing from their kits that you need to buy, mostly needles.
Before you go with a kit what is it about the 'US' dolls that you don't like? It's important that you identify that and be sure you can make a doll that you like.

Re: Waldorf Dolls
To be honest I can't really find any US dolls only a couple. Its not that I don't like US dolls, just the two I found. I think its really just the hair I didn't like. It looks... flat

That should give you about ten thousand choices. The hair is just about how you make the wig, what size yarn and how much you use.

Re: Waldorf Dolls
I've made several waldorf dolls and it's time consuming and makes my fingertips sore but it's really fun to see the doll "come to life" in the process. You can order wool by calling West Earl Woolen Mill at (717) 859-2241 (they do not have a website) and their prices are unbeatable. You can make a doll using a flesh toned cotton jersey t-shirt or get interlock at JoAnn's, or order it online (I have some from Weir and also some very high-end Swiss skin which I love because it doesn't pill). You can get a 5-inch doll making needle at JoAnn's (you need this to do the eyes/mouth) plus the embroidery thread is available there. You can definitely make a doll before the holidays, just devote a few hours a night
Good luck!
