How do you bake crispy chicken?
I'm a vegetarian so I never cook meat. But I have to cook some chicken wings for a party and I am not sure how to do it. I am using chicken wings. The whole wing, not the buffalo wing kind. I would prefer to bake them instead of frying and I do not want to add any sort of egg or flour to them. I just want plain old crispy chicken. A sauce will be applied later so they need to be just plain old chicken with no breading or anything like that.
How do I get a crispy chicken in the oven? Can I just put them on a cookie sheet and bake them until they reach temp? |

You can just bake them, but without anything on the skin (like butter) I don't think it will be as crispy as you want. I usually put a thin pat of butter (less than a tsp) on top of a whole chicken (typically how I roast them) and as it melts down it crisps the skin up nicely. I'm not sure how I'd do that for wings without using a TON of butter, though. I had one lady tell me to brush mayo on my chicken one time for crispy skin, but that was just a little too southern/clogged arteries for me.

Re: How do you bake crispy chicken?
Try this minus the sauce http://www.thehungrymouse.com/2009/0...d-bbq-chicken/ . You'll probably want to spray it with cooking spray or brush a little oil on them. That will crisp the skin with out adding flavor. And since your using wings you might want to shorten the time a little. We do this with sauce using boneless breast and it turns out well, but you will need to brush with oil or spray or it won't crisp.

Re: How do you bake crispy chicken?
I cook my thawed wings in the oven with butter, salt and pepper for an hour at 350°. You may want to turn in the middle. If they don't seem crispy enough I turn up the heat and cook a little longer.
I apply sauce after they are cooked as my kids don't like it.
