12 diapers lasts my 15 month old 2 days. When he was younger no way. 12 wipes lol?? Must have a tidy pooper. DS requires lots of wipes! I think they are underestimating to make a point and that isn't right.

I have friends who CD full-time with 7-10 daytime diapers and 2 overnight. They wash every morning and are perfectly happy with it. Their wash routine takes almost no time at all because their diapers don't sit in the pail very long. It's totally possible and a very popular approach to take outside of "cloth diaper culture" cloth diapering.

I guess it just depends on the kid. It seems like washing everyday would nearly negate cost savings. And my kid is a super-pooper, usually going 2-3 times a day, so we really burn through the diapers some days.

I would think washing daily would cause excessive wear and tear on the diapers and wouldn't be very environmentally friendly.
I recommend a minimum of 18 diapers- enough to get through with a smaller baby (and washing more often) and then getting into a reasonable wash routine with an older baby.
I could totally cd full time with 18 day diapers and 4 overnight diapers (especially if I could have a dozen prefolds and a couple one size covers as back up) and could probably still wash every third night.

This is sort of OT

I've seen old pamphlets from the late 70s/early 80s, and they offer comparison charts for sposies vs. cloth too! However, one of the things in THOSE charts -- which is not in THIS chart -- is the "value of your time". I think they valued a housewive's time at minimum wage, and it made the chart show that sposies were CHEAPER.

Bottom line, however, is that it doesn't really matter what the value of your time is unless you are actually getting paid for it. I mean, what kind of attitude is that?

"I won't do x,y,z task, it's not worth my time" FuzziBunz chart would look very different if they calculated in all that time spent

my dipes are still in great condition. i dont plan on buying more size small diapers. i feel what we had is plenty. we just rinsed the diapers out by hand and washed them with our normal laundry that we did daily anyway so it really wasnt any more environmentally unfriendly since we werent just washing a small load of dipes.

I never understand the 'wear and tear' argument. Do the diapers need time to heal between washings? It seems to me that the diaper has the same lifetime either way. Say its 100 washings, wouldn't the savings work out to be the same if your stash is small?

Well if you had a very small stash and therefore used each diaper in it 4+ times per week instead of a medium/large stash where you used each diaper 1-2 times per week your elastic/ PUL/ and fabrics would wear down in double the time. By the time you are done using a small stash it wouldn't be worth much (if anything- I know if we were using 10 diapers for 2 years- they would be garbage at the end if they even functionally made it that far- even prefolds would have holes) whereas if you had a medium stash, the diapers would likely be GUC or better by the time you are done using them, and will retain some of their resale value.
I guess I look at it also from the view of convenience as well- I don't want to wash diapers daily (with multiple cycles) or even every other day.
I even do all our family's laundry in one day of the week.
The same argument stands for say a pair of jeans- if you had 2 pairs of jeans that you washed 3/4 times per week versus say 6 pairs of jeans that you washed once per week the 2 pairs would show wash wear and break down faster. Not to mention that diapers are washed much more harshly (with multiple rinse cycles and at higher water temperatures) than our regular laundry.
