Yes I think both of those would work, especially would match the lights on an embroidered tree! You could make a seperate applique that would be easy to remove for longer wear.

That same Phoebe Sweater is the one I saw here and both my girls are getting sweater, mouse and mouse clothes for Christmas this year. Can't wait to get started.

Mosaic Moon has quite a number of colorways that are great for the holidays. O'Hara would work for a boy and I am debating on it for my babe. Always been a huge fan of her eye for color!
