I took DD to the health dept for her 24 mo vaxes. They would not let me leave w/o getting EVERY vax on the list of "required" vaxes - that included flu vax. When I said I needed to think about it and come back, the lady said she would have to call CPS if I left without getting all the shots.

I don't know how accurate that info is. But the health dept lady said it was all or none for the shots. And that included flu.

That is not right.

Did you end up getting every shot? I would report this health department. Sorry you had to go through that.

We do the flu shot here. I work in a school and the kiddos are in daycare, so they are likely to be exposed. We've never had an adverse reaction, they've never gotten sick from it, and they haven't had the flu. Most years they don't even get sick.

I haven't gotten a flu shot for my child yet. she's just 2 now. I saw no point in the first year of life as I'm a SAHM. I might have felt different if she was in daycare. I haven't decided about this year. I'm still a SAHM, but we spend a lot of time with other kids.

I think I will still not get it. I don't have a lot of reasons. Just my gut.

My oldest got the flu at three months and was hospitalized for three days. I've gotten the flu shot for all my kids every time because of that.

My mom has a compromised immune system, and has therefor gotten it for over ten years, I think maybe more than 15? Only once has she still gotten the flu because they were wrong about what strain to get. Despite us living with her when DD1 got it, both my mom and I stayed healthy as we had both had the vaccine.

I think it is one you really have to decide if it is worth it. I may or may not stop getting it once all my kids are past the baby stage.

English is not her first language. That she can do as well as she does is an acomplishment.

Re: tell me your pro's and cons!

DD got a confirmed case of H1N1 at 5mths old, before she was old enough to get the vax. I never, ever want to go through that again, so we get them every year. So far, so good. It's all pros to me. They can't get the flu from the vax, so no worries there. My kids did both get some sniffles due to the immune response from getting the vax, but that was it. We will always get the flu vax.

Oh I see. I've wondered about that before, actually. I wish I could do that well in another language, lol.

Re: tell me your pro's and cons!

A recent study has linked the flu shots to H1N1. It has me reconsidering, and I normally do get the shot.

OMG. I'm not from Canada but that's the year my DD got the flu after getting the first does of the flu shot. We'll never know for sure, but it was a harrowing week. Maybe it was coincidental, maybe not, but we've never had a flu shot since.

I'm really torn now. My children are not in daycare, but the older two are in school.

No compromised immune systems near me :-)
