Washed out for us no problem.

Even better ... our midwife slicked up LO in olive oil, and had us repeat that at each diaper change till the meconium was gone. (I guess coconut oil is more trendy now but it might not work the same). Anyway, the meconium came right off him! I wouldn't have known it was typically hard to get off if he hadn't pooped on me right after he was born.

Yes, EVOO was awesome for keeping the meconium off the bum! Wish someone had told me that with my first and second sons!

The oil doesn't stop the diaper from absorbing? I'm not worried about stains, but will function be affected?

just like everyone's saying... I would use a cloth wipe... I love a birdseye cotton one from gmd-- nice and thin and like a flat.

DH sprayed them all off religiously, but I don't think he would have needed to. We didn't have any staining either.
