Can food cans

Can the cans from canned food be recycled? I don't even know what they are made of. Do I put them in the aluminum can bag or what? I'm trying to lessen the amount we throw away and recycle more. I already take a big garbage bag of plastics to recycle about once a month or so along with a paper sack or two of papers.

Re: Can food cans

Yes, "tin" cans are commonly recycled. I think most tin cans are made of aluminum with tin plated steel lids, (with a Bisphenol A coating). I think they are usually recycled separately from soda cans. I would keep them separate, and ask what your drop off site prefers. We have co-mingled recycling where I am- and I'm fairly sure they don't want the lids?

My Mood:
Ours asks tin and aluminum to be separate.
