We co-sleep and my DS, who just turned 3 nurses 1-2 times a night. I don't see it as a problem at all.

Single Mommy to my 3 year old DS born all natural. We are a Cosleeping, Breastfeeding, Babywearing Non-Vaxing DUO!!

Re: Sleeping problems with Extended BFing

I night weaned DD1 when she was 2 1/2 because I was pregnant. She didn't sleep through the night until closer to 4. (sleeping at least 5 hours straight, not 8-10 like her sister).
DD2 slept through the night at 14 months (8-10 full hours)
DD3 sleeps through the night at 8 weeks! (7-8 full hours!)

Each baby is an individual and knows what they need. I spend more time up in the middle of the night with my 4 year old (DD1) than the other 2 combined!

And we have a giant family bed. No babies sleep away from mama here. So cosleeping/crib sleeping is not the culprit.

Re: Sleeping problems with Extended BFing

Thanks Ladies, that makes me feel better. You know the peds about sleeping through the night. It is not affecting me except a little cubital tunnel syndrome and knee pain sleeping in the rocking chair. The only way to night wean for us would be DH to get up because I am the milk maid you know and that will not happen anytime soon.

I did read an article on line about BF and human babies were meant to sleep with their mommas and nurse on demand for the first 2 years. I think that makes sense but when the ped says something about sleeping through the night, makes you second guess your gut feeling.

Re: Sleeping problems with Extended BFing

Stalking this thread for a similar issue, though my little one is only 7 months. We cope with it by sharing night parenting responsibilities -- hubby will get up and rock her back down once per night if needed (sometimes it's not). He works, but he considers this an integral part of his job as a daddy! It saves my sleep-deprived sanity.
