Sewing machine recommendation?
I really would like a sewing machine for Christmas and need some recommendations. It needs to be ~$300 or below. I can mend clothes by hand but have never used a sewing machine. I'd like to use it to make curtains, fleece pants for dd, and eventually some diapers. Any recommendations?

Re: Sewing machine recommendation?
I've been loving my Brother CP7500 for about a year now. It was around $170 and is so easy to use (I'm a beginner). The walking foot makes sewing jersey really easy, and it can handle thick wool and prefolds. The embroidery stitches are fun. And the manual is like a sewing lesson.

Re: Sewing machine recommendation?
If you want computerized I would get this:
http://www.hancockfabrics.com/Janome...ign=8050Janome It's the same as a janome dc1050 but only sold at Hancock. This is a good mechanical: http://www.hancockfabrics.com/Janome...ign=8050Janome Or this mechanical: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 |

Re: Sewing machine recommendation?
I was going say it depends if u want mechanical or computerized & how many things u want to do & if u want new or used. I have seen on craigslist free to pretty cheap ones in or with the tables but they are older. I think I have old kenmore but my mom just bought new singer something & loves.

Re: Sewing machine recommendation?
Some machines can do an overlock stitch but it's way easier to have a serger.
I recommend, if you want to do serging, buying a nice but not top of your budget model, and then saving up for the serger while you start learning your machine. The Brother recommended above looks nice, I have another Brother model that I love! And if you sew jersey or make quilts, the walking foot is an awesome thing to have! Love mine!

I'm thinking I might go with a singer 7258. Looks like a great machine.
