My mall has a Gymboree anda Crazy 8 right across from each other. The stores are laid out the same and have tvs and very similar products. the crazy 8 quality might be a little less but the prices are way less. I flound a crazy 8 coupon, 20% off in a magazine a scored a great deal on clearance items. I would totally recommend Crazy 8 clothing (I love Gymboree sleepers though)

I do pretty good shopping the gymboree clearance rack I think. A few weeks ago I had a 20% coupon and they had 20% off clearance items, and I earned $25 gymbucks. I used those this weekend. All together I paid about $100 for ~$450 worth of clothes. And they should last for both of my girls which makes it even better for me.

Crazy 8 has crazy good sales sometimes! I often find tees for 2.99 and then use my 20% off coupon! Plus my once upon a child doesn't have crazy 8 in their system so they just price it as low end- I got sz 7 pjs and a 2t sweater today for 3.50 each!

Re: How do gymbucks and the coupons work?

Like a previous poster said, gymbucks are done during specific time periods and they're usually done 3-5 times per year. They come in $25 off $50 increments and you can use as many as you want. The best deals are found when you buy ahead and the absolute best time to do gymbucks is at the end of their big red balloon sales which are typically in June and January. The coupons are usually 20% off, but they are occasionally higher and every once in a while Gymboree does their circle of friends sale which is 30% off. You cannot use coupons with gymbucks. If you sign up on their website they will email you about sales and send you coupons.

As for Crazy 8, like others said, they are Gymboree's sister company as is Janie and Jack. I also always compare them to Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy. Each a little different, but somewhat similar and the quality goes down a little with each one. I've still had great success with Crazy 8 and they have awesome sales. Their Black Friday sales are always good. The clothes I buy for DS1 are rarely resold since they go through two boys so I'm not as worried about resale value and I typically just look for good quality jeans and shirts that I can get killer deals on and I always get a ton of stuff from there. Their jeans are good quality and during sales/BF I can get cute shirts for like $2-$3. I also wanted to say though that I have to disagree that their resale value isn't as good. Individual pieces don't resell great, but neither do Gymboree's. I always resell DD's clothes and the 2nd highest resale value I've ever had on that type of clothing was a Crazy 8 outfit (I say that type because you can't compare Gymbo/C8 to something like Matilda Jane or other brands like that). Just make sure to get the cute outfits and accessorize when possible since that dramatically ups the resale value if that's what you're going for.

Re: How do gymbucks and the coupons work?

I just got back ( well yesterday) from using my gymbucks.

It basically is like an additional 25% off your purchase...
The first time you go in the store during their "earning" period, you must spend in increments of $50 to make it worth it.
I love to choose things off the clearance rack and use a 20% coupon during the earning period to reach $50.

Then during their "redeeming period" you go in and pick out another $50 worth of clothin ( I was able to get 3 shirts and 2 pants) and they give you$25 off once u hand over the earned gymbucks. So I got the 3 shirts and 2 pants for $25. $5 a piece, not bad

So I spent a total of $75 for my sons 4 tshirts, 1 jean, 2 pairs of socks, and dd 3 shirts and 2 pants. I don't do this for resale either bc I don't feel it's worth my time or effort. Do people really buy used gymbo clothes for more than $5 a piece? If you hit a red balloon sale you can easily walk away with double the amount of clothes for the same price .

Re: How do gymbucks and the coupons work?

Oh and crazy 8 is definately lesser quality, and the fit is different I feel. I was able to find a huge assortment of clothes for ds (size small) for $3.20 each after coupons...this included three fleece pants, which are nice and thick
I like both stores but only shop clearance or deep sale with coupons.

What irks me is that I can't use a 20% coupon during Gymboree redeeming period.

Re: How do gymbucks and the coupons work?

Great info, thanks so much. For resale the outfit thing makes sense. Really I would just be looking for mainly the baby and maybe the toddler. I know baby got a moose outfit last xmas and I resold it, had the socks, one pair not even worn and it sold super quickly on ebay....twice...first a non payer...but resold super quick.

I do love their hats! We have a polar bear hat and mitten set from two years ago, then a moose hat and a top toddler size from last year and I saw a boy with maybe a raccoon or hedgehog? hat at the park last spring, mom said it was gymbo, so cute. Oh, I guess I have another dog hat and mittens from a garage sale too. I might look out for some matching pieces even to go with the polar bear and moose stuff I have already on ebay.

So I'll sign up on the site and I think plan for the January sale, is it the end of January?

What size is the baby in? I have a hoodie from a polar bear line in 12/18 months that's too small for us, it's from, I believe, the snow bear line.

Re: How do gymbucks and the coupons work?

So what do you experiences Gymbo moms consider to be a good deal for new pieces? $5/shirt? $7/shirt? There is a 50% off sale now with shirts for $5.25-$6.55 plus shipping. I don't have any extra coupons or gymbucks...Is that a good deal?

I could get shirts here at walmart for $5-7 each and jeans for $8-10, so I sort or figured if I could get Gymbo stuff for the same price, do that. Goodwill here is $3-4 for shirts, but they are used. Nothing against that, I just want stuff to last througgh multiple kids.

Sorry for all the dumb questions. My ODS is 7 and we have survived so far (with 3 younges kids to boot!) almost exclusively on gifts and hand me downs. But they have tapered off and now (gasp!) I have to actually BUY my kids some clothes

For long sleeve shirts I would pay $5-$6 ($7 would be pushing it for me - I would have to LOVE it). For summer shirts around $3-$4. I see a few summer clothes around that price point right now online. If you need a gymbo code, sign up to receive emails on the website - you will get a code for 10% off plus free ship on $50.
PS - for fancier tops like polos, sweaters or button down, I would pay a little more.
