Breastfeeding when pregnant question
If you're able to keep breastfeeding until the birth, will you still produce colostrum or will it just stay breastmilk?

Your milk will change to colostrum a couple months before birth. So your nursing toddler will be getting colostrum.

Re: Breastfeeding when pregnant question
It always tailors itself to the younger baby. So yeah, it changes to colostrum at the end of pregnancy (varies by woman, obviously, but usually by the third trimester). Only thing is, it might give your toddler diarrhea. Didn't happen for three of my kids, but did for the fourth.

Re: Breastfeeding when pregnant question
It'll definitely change to colostrum at some point before birth
It wouldn't hurt the toddler - may cause diarrhea, like a pp mentioned, he may not like the taste and may stop wanting to nurse because of the change, or he may take to it and just nurse like normal (if he does, he may gain weight quicker, cuz of the quality of the colostrum!) ![]() Many women, though certainly not all, will experience a dip in milk supply before the milk changes to colostrum - totally normal, though, again, the toddler may not be happy with the lack of supply and may stop nursing because of it. Some quit, some keep suckling through it.

I quit producing though which is pretty common around the end of the first trimester.
