Re: Paleo & Primal Chat August/September

Wished I had seen this earlier! I started eating more primal right before pregnancy and am always trying to get closer to 80/20. My 13m DS is actually a meat lover, though unfortunately daycare got him to like cheerios! He just started the lunch plan and I have been feeling sad about all the carbs that he will be getting. Their meal plan is pretty good with the veggies and fruit but low on the protein and fats. Plenty of dairy. The worst part is the cereal for snacks between meals. They are willing to let me sub out some of the foods, so I need to come up with a plan for bringing in some replacement foods.

I already keep small containers of cooked chicken/beef/pork that I can send but I need more suggestion for things that can keep longer that can replace the cereal at snack time. So far this is what I have:

sliced olives
fudge bars (made from coconut, butter, fish oil and choc chips, they are just barely sweet)
rice cake soaked in coconut oil (this is the crunchy rice cracker kind? Not really paleo but it is to get the coconut oil in him and he'll eat less total cereal)
freeze dried veggies from Just tomatoes (he loves crunchy stuff)

Have not tried jerky, please recommend what and where to get? He has 8 front teeth but actually not that good at chewing yet. Those teeth are great at tearing meat though! Here he is going at a lamb chop.

Re: Paleo & Primal Chat August/September

That is such a cute picture! <3 <3 <3

I'm failing miserably right now. I've gained 5lb and I am feeling AWFUL with stomach problems and headaches. I made a deal with DH-- 7 days FULL Paleo and then 1 cup of coffee ONLY after that and I get an extra $20 spending money next month when we do our budget. I need some external motivation because apparently being healthy and not miserable wasn't enough.

Re: Paleo & Primal Chat August/September

Thanks!
I got all motivated when reading the WAP, Nourishing Traditions, GAPS Support thread, February 2012 thread. Kept reading on to links at Weston Price and got to an article about 6tablespoons of fat for toddler daily! I was already feeding DS more fat that DH would like but apparently I'm not even close! But I do think I can do more, last night DS had a meltdown induced by hunger. He had mostly carbs for evening snack, when I woke him for dinner he just wanted nurse. Took almost 2 hours to finally get him to eat and when he ate alot. Today I sent a bottle of olive oil for daycare to add to his lunch and pm snack. I think I am gonna try baking some arrowroot crackers to replace the cheerios they serve. Need to gather the materials and find the time though!

I just wanted to say dh and I have been thinking about doing paleo, and emerald just came out with a seven meals a week food planner for a paleo diet. That makes it super easy, I think!
