Re: Anyone appeal?
Thank you for posting this thread. It appears that we are approaching this same point in our case (15 months in our care). We are also debating hiring a lawyer. I appreciate the stories some people were able to share even though I know not all contested cases end favoring the foster parents.

Re: Anyone appeal?
Have you filed de facto parent status, OP?

Re: Anyone appeal?
It's called different things in different states. Some don't allow it at all and some after 6 months or 12 months of being the foster parent. Here it is referred to as becoming a party to the case. Luckily there are no time restrictions here so I may do it at any time if I feel I need.

Depending on your state (I had no idea it wasn't universal) it allows you to be party to the case. You should be able to speak at the court hearings then? I think. We were waiting to do it with our FFS, but he left after only 4 months.

Re: Anyone appeal?
Msheidiann, is it 6 months in CA? Seems like 6 months or 12 months of being the child's foster parent lets you do this in most states. My state says you can at any time which is surprising. Then I know in Illinois, for example, it's not allowed at all.

Re: Anyone appeal?
My state doesn't allow de facto parent status.
