I think you can get small bits of rope light with a battery operated attachement at the stores that sell tons of car customizing stuff (like the stores that sell loads of build a car stereo ingredients).

Doesnt help you much since you'd have tl order nut if you wanted a small amount of light you can get little led bulb things and tape them to a small battery...we looked at this option for lighting up our paper lanterns for our wedding
