anyway, TONS AND TONS of bacon grease!

what can I make with this?

I know it's fatty and not good for you. That's ok. We eat healthy probably 90% of the time. And I want to make something for my insanely skinny DH to eat. He LOVES pig bacon.

Suggestions?
I would venture to say it's better for you than margarine and shortening! I read a book called Nourishing Traditions and they are huge supporters of animal fats in diet. We just got our ham and bacon smoked and DH is in heaven!

Anyway, I use bacon grease to cook eggs in (I just put it in the fridge until later to use).
Also to make szechuan green beans (yummy!).

use it to make popcorn!!!!

I've never actually tried this, but my grandma said it was the only way she'd eat popcorn in the good ole days!

Pork fat is much better for you than butter. As it is 50% monounsaturated fat whereas butter is 66% saturated fat. Keep it in a jar in the refrigerator and use a little when you make your husband some eggs.

Here's how I usually make mine:

Cornbread
2 cups self-rising corn meal
4 tablespoons oil, divided
1 1/2 cups buttermilk, approximately
1 egg

Grease a cast iron skillet with 2 TBS oil, heat in 400 degree oven while you mix up batter.
Mix corn meal, remaining oil, egg and buttermilk (start with 1.5 Cups and add a little extra if batter is too thick). Pour batter into hot skillet (it will sizzle and the extra oil you heated in the skillet may kind of puddle around the edges. That's ok, it makes the crust nice and crispy)
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.

This sounds wonderful!! You don't put any flour in the recipe? Or does the self-rising cornmeal have flour in it?

I use it in lots anything can be sautéed in bacon grease: eggs, green beans, potatoes, you name it

I rarely use it, but sometimes it's just amazing.

Growing up, my mom always put a little in the skillet when she made pancakes. It makes the edges crispy and golden. Delicious!!!

We save it in a bowl with a lid on our counter and then "butter" our toast with it. Really yummy. Especially on sourdough.

Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?

We raise our own pigs here & inevitably end up with more fat than needed. If you hunt deer, you can use it to mix w/the meat since there's not much fat to them. Also, it's great for making your own bird feeders - like the ones at TSC or Walmart that are all stuck together like a block of birdseed. You mix the seeds & fat & mold together.

Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?

ok, so I tried. I did try!

I failed.

I suck at making bacon gravy AND biscuits. DH muscled through one. Then he smiled at me sadly and said, "I don't think I can eat anymore."

Dang it.
