If it is a hernia, it is VERY slight. And it will heal on it's own. You should be able to tell if it is a hernia....if he is crying or straining to poo, it will buldge outward. The only concern with belly button hernias are if they get stuck out. Then it would probably need a very minor surgery but that's pretty rare.

My dd had an umbilical hernia, and it was not noticable at all. A hernia doesn't need to be huge and bulging. Ask your ped to take a look at it the next time you go in for a well visit.

My girls have umbilical hernia. Theirs are much more noticeable and bulges out farther and is softer than that but that doesn't mean it is not.
