My Mood:
Re: Gift Ideas- best gifts for certain ages

Fun thread!

Preschool and primary- I second (third?) the dress up clothes. Random craft stuff that is theirs to mess with (scissors, glue, play dough, craft paper, goggly eyes, etc..), musical instruments

Infants- Most popular items here have always been the things that go in things (the milk jug toy with the cookies, the fish bowl with the little fishes), stacking cups (Discovery Toys), Taggie items, wooden blocks/teethers, musical instruments

Boys ages 4- whatever- LEGO, LEGO, LEGO (some girls, too)

Girls - craft kits (I never buy my DD those specific kits, except for Christmas time, and she gets some gifted from friends throughout the year, and she loves them), nylon loop loom (I cannot remember the name, but you make potholders and such out of it), cooking sets (I have heard bad things about the newer Easy Bake oven, but DD has loved the cupcake decorating kits, etc...)

General kids, 5 and up- Lego (we love Lego here), DAS sets, science sets, board games (Monopoly, rummy tiles, mancala), stomp rockets, crazy carpets, zipfy sled

I will think of more!

My standard new-baby gift is a black and white or baby faces board book. For the mama upthread needing to buy for a 5-month-old, I saw a neat book at the bookstore called Art for Baby that's $15 on Amazon. I want that for DD2.

My standard first-birthday gift is a Melissa & Doug jumbo knob puzzle.

My older DD does love play food...for brands, I'd recommend the Green Toys tea set and the Plan Toys wood slicing food that comes on a wood tray.
Amelia, married to Bear since 12/31/04; our daughter Rowan was born 8/6/09; our daughter Sapphira was born 8/17/12; due with DD3 6/17/15 (but after one two weeks late and one three weeks early, I'm not expecting a due-date baby!)
