Re: Where do I go from here?

Can a family practitioner prescribe Clomid? I talked to my Dr this morning and she said she hasn't brought up Clomid because if I need to go that route, she needs to sent me to the fertility specialist to get that prescription, and he'll have do re-do testing before he'll prescribe it to me, so she claims that's why she's holding off for so long. I'm totally lost here. I'm calling again and telling her I need an appointment with the specialist then, because I'm obviously not getting pregnant, and I'm just wasting my time.

Re: Where do I go from here?

Ok, yet another update...
Just got off the phone with my Dr again, and she's putting a referral in the clinics system for me to see the fertility specialist. Unfortunately, it's the OB/GYN who I first saw when I was pregnant with Gabe who I stopped seeing in the middle of my pregnancy because he was short and insensitive. He was a good Dr, medical-wise, but had a lack of consideration for any questions that came up, so since this is all questions for me now, I'm extremely nervous.

Re: Where do I go from here?

You need to go see a Reproductive Endocrinologist! You need to get more agressive with treatments and start different meds!
I am on my 18th cycle of TTC so I feel you on that one and have tried all kinds of meds!

I have no idea where to find one, or if there's even one my insurance will cover

Re: Where do I go from here?

I completely know all the feelings you are talking about. I wanted 3-4 babies and here I am, blessed to have one, but stalled out on TTC #2.

A year on metformin to wait and see is not acceptable IMO. And is there any clinical evidence that you have PCOS? I would go to an RE ASAP. I really don't think your dr is doing enough or acting aggressively enough. Not cool. You are the patient, he does what YOU want. Do you need a referral to an RE?

Call your insurance and ask if you need a referral and what they will cover when it comes to infertility treatments. Ask them to give you the name of an RE who is in network. If it is a commercial insurance, they probably at a minimum will cover labs and diagnostic testing, and may even cover treatments.

I am going on 2 years aggressively TTC a sticky #2 (going on 3 years of TTC total) so I know it sucks and hurts.

I'm considering giving our clinic a shot, since the fertility specialist said he will be doing a full workup (whatever that means, but it's more than my current Dr has done!).

Re: Where do I go from here?

do ask your insurance co. and let us know

I would not go to a dr I previously didn't like- too much stress and not necessary unless you are rural.

and the questions above are great-- do you need a referral? what drs are covered in your area? what procedures are covered?

Re: Where do I go from here?

Ok. Lots of new updates!

I have an appointment on the 12th with my current clinics fertility specialist. I am scheduled to meet with him, then have an outpatient workup to try and get a better look at my fertility.

I called my insurance company and there are no RE's covered in our network. So unfortunately I need to start here and hope and pray that I get more answers from this new Dr. I did get an email explaining my benefits better after I called and found this regarding treatment:

-Counseling and diagnosis of infertility, including related services (open access service)
-Treatment for medical conditions of infertility (NOT an open access service. You must see a provider in the network.) Note: This does not include artificial ways to become pregnant.

I assume artificial ways would be IVF and IUI?
