moving and making friends

We are (probably) moving next month and I am worried that I am taking my kids away from their friends. We have moved alot in the past several years and they have finally found some great friends in the neighborhood we are in. We will be moving 15-20 minutes away, and while not super far, it will make a big difference. One of my sons sees his best friend almost daily as he lives about 3 houses away. My other son sees one of his friends at least once a week. Maybe I am making too much out of it, but it just makes me feel sad for them. Since we started homeschool it's been harder to find friends. The last neighborhood we lived in for about 3 years they didn't really have any friends. I'm worried that we will move and they won't make friends again. They are both shy and not ones to go up to someone to strike up a conversation.

We moved 15min away and my Son is still super close to his friend and it's been 2 years. They only see each other once or twice a month but we make the most of it. We have swim dates/YMCA dates with another friend a couple of times a month or more. While they lose out on the wonderful everyday interaction I've seen the boys' friendships continue to grow strong

Can you join a coop, sports team, or play group? I find (we are military so we move a lot) making friends is much easier at some sort of social kids group. I usually google the area and see if there is some sort of online social group also. It's a great place to post, "new to the area with a X year old son, looking to find friends", always a good place to start looking.
