Meat Protein Introduction?

So I've been doing pureed solids for my DS and wonder about proteins. He eats solids in the 2nds varieties and many of them have proteins of some sort (chicken, beef). I thought meats were for when they were closer to one year old? My DS is 7 months old and he loves his food. I am certain he would really enjoy meat but I didn't know if it is too early to give them even though he eats 2nds now. Thoughts?
