Trainers vs. a "regular" diaper that pulls up?

My DS is at the beginning of his potty training adventures.

I am trying to decide whether to buy some trainers or get regular side snapping diapers & just pull those up & down???

I have both on the way. Mother-ease AIO as a pull up diaper & blueberry/IV trainers with side snapping fleece covers as a trainer option.

I think we still have a ways to go with potty training but I don't want to spend a lot of money since my regular diapers cost a lot already.

What did you all use???

Re: Trainers vs. a "regular" diaper that pulls up?

we have both. I have some motherease sandies (they are easier to pull up and down than the MEOS) that we just use under fleece pants. And I have some grovia trainers as well, and am considering buying a few more as they fit really well on my skinny little dude. And then of course we just have the regular padded undies. Again, under fleece pants it's at least not a massive puddle on the floor. The diapers that you could pull up and down didn't really fool them, they know it's a diaper. They were nice to have for naps though.
I'm thinking we need a few more pairs of fleece pants .

We had a stash of mostly flips and BG AIOs when DS started to PT, and we found those too tough for DS to pull up and down, plus we really used the 'big boy undies' as incentive for him. So we did three days in regular undies (to help notice when he was going) and then used Hanna Anderson trainers for awhile because they usually prevented a huge mess, even though his clothes would still get wet. For nights we use a mix of paper and double-stuffed ladder hill designs.
