Hernia repair?

My hubby had one done last Monday and I'm just wondering if you've had it done how long was your recovery time and were there any side effects or things I shod know?

Re: Hernia repair?

My husband had one almost 2 years ago. Only thing I can think of is that he had another bulge in the same area about a year later. We thought it was maybe another hernia, but after two doctors and an MRI, they diagnosed it as excess scar tissue. He still gets a tugging sensation around the site when he exerts himself sometimes.
Oh and my DH was a stubborn and was out trying to help me shovel snow like two days post op. I wonder if that had anything to do with his scarring.

Re: Hernia repair?

It's been a long time (like 7 yrs) but I think my healing time was 6 weeks and no lifting (not even like jug of milk weight) during that time (which sucked- I had a 18 month old).

No prbs here. Maybe a little tugging feel for about 6 months after but definitely much better than the pain of having the hernia.

I had it done 2 years ago. I would say my recovery was about a week before moving without a ton of pain. Had it on a Wednesday, my pain med pump that numbed the area was out on sat and pain level increased. I would say it was a month before I was 100%.

Alisha I know how to spell my Samsung Galaxy S2 does not.

ETA I still get tugging rarely. I do have a slight bump at one end of my scar. I think because of tape or glue.

Thanks ladies! He has a hard bump where it was but the dr. Said its normal as long as it is decreasing in size. He hasn't lifted anything, but I'm worried because he works for ups and was given 4 weeks off. I'm hoping that if he isn't 100% that they'll give him an extra 2 weeks.
