We turned our kids forward facing based on their weight and height with their carseat. I believe they both turned at about 14 months.

What car seat do you own? Any car seat manual will tell you that you are ALLOWED to turn them FFing at 1 year AND 20lbs, but not that you SHOULD. The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) along with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) agree that rear facing as long as possible is the safest way for a baby/toddler/child to ride.

It isn't just some crazy thing we thought up.....this whole extended rear facing thing. It is a fact, that rear facing is safer for our children.
