Technical Question - Tether RFing

I have my dd in a Britax Roundabout. I am using the latch to rf her.

My Questions:

Do any of you also use the tether strap when rfing?

If so, are only certain vehicles compatible w/tethering rfing?

*I did thumb through the manual on line and I can't seem to specific info for rfing tether... is it discouraged in American cars? I remember seeing diagrams for other countries before.

THank you soooooo much for your time and in put!

Re: Technical Question - Tether RFing

I'm no expert but I can tell you my experience. I have a Britax Marathon and I drive a Japanese car (subaru). When DS was rearfacing, I used the tether and shoulderbelt because my car does not have latch. Without the RFing tether the carseat wasn't secured properly. It would lunge forward.

However my mother drives an Oldsmobile that has latch and no tether hook. Her car didn't seem to need the tether when he would ride in it, because it was rock solid secure with just the latch.

I hope that made sense, lol. reading over it sounds kind of confusing.

Re: Technical Question - Tether RFing

Hi CPST here, I use the rear facing tether becouse its what is recomended, and its safer you need to find a non moving part of the vehical to wrap the strap around then tether like usual. go to car-seat.org if you want specifics on your vehical and where good tether spots may be

Your seat can, and should be tethered rear facing. We have ours tethered to the front passenger seat using the D-ring that came with the seat.

If your car seat can RF tether you should. Here is a good up to date site on RF tethering.
