I have heard that, too, about delaying clamping, but I'd just ask the organization you would donate with. We didn't do it because my hospital did not "allow" it or have a participating program. I didnt feel up to hoop jumping. But thanks for the reminder! Gonna see if my new hospital allows it.

Re: Cord blood donation?

If you google "donating cord blood to a public bank", I'm sure one of the public banks can answer your questions. The public banks are desperate for cord blood so I have a hard time seeing them waste it if that's not necessary.

I had planned to donate my lo's cord blood and I remember that I was able to find online a list of the hospitals that offered public donation services. Sorry I don't have the link for that anymore. Unfortunately for us, my lo had complications w/ delivery and his cord blood was not viable.

Re: Cord blood donation?

Ask your doctor or the hospital where you will deliver. My doctor's office asked right away if I wanted info, then gave me the contact information for the hospital's program. I'm really excited to be able to donate this time since the last hospital didn't allow it.

I did a little googling to see if my new hospital has a program in place. According to marrow.org if the cord doesnt have enough blood they use it for research instead. So I would definitely still look into it!
