Re: Labor in a tub but not deliver, how does it go?

I should add, I agree w/PP the tub made me progress very fast.

I got in at, like 4, and immediately fell asleep. Was in for just one hour. I woke up pushing with baby's head coming out.

Re: Labor in a tub but not deliver, how does it go?

i havent read all the resonces...

my last birth i labored in the tub at the hospital. it was FREAKIN AWSOME! I went from 4-7 in about 2 hours in the tub. at 7 i just wanted to get out, not sure why but i did. went to the bed and went from 7-10 in about 10 mins. i do think the water helped soften me up down there because i didnt get cut or tear. the warm water was such a relief. my other birth were hospital births as well. i decline any pain meds but the tub def helped. i plan on using it this time although the hossy im delivering in this time has like a bath tub sized tub where i was in an all out jazuzzi before

Re: Labor in a tub but not deliver, how does it go?

I labored in a tub and, for me, it was a great way to relax between contractions and let my body do what it was supposed to do. I went in at about 3-4cm, stayed in for an hour, and got out at 9cm. Moved to the bed (which was right next to the tub, by the way - not down the hall or in another room), and DD was delivered about 5 min later. I didn't mind getting out for delivery. Honestly, I think I'd rather get out before pushing than after delivery. After delivery, I just want to relax and cuddle baby, not have to hoist myself out of a tub and dry off...

But, no, you can't go in the tub with an epidural. Perhaps it might help you cope with the pain if you wanted to delay getting the epi, though?
