The Grinch that Stole Christmas (or at least stole the baby Jesus)

I'm really upset. I go over to my 80-year-old friend's house today to pick her up so that she can go with me and hold my lo while I am managing my mutts at the vet's office. She tells me that she looked over her porch wall and discovered that someone had stolen the baby Jesus from her outdoor nativity set. I mean who does that kind of thing? She had just bought it a few days ago (one of those plastic two feet tall sets). All that was left was Mary, Joseph, and her set of three kings. That's really mean to go out and steal someone's Nativity.

Who would steal from an elderly person? She said that she wanted to put a sign out there stating "Do you have a conscience?". She has a friend who lives with her who said that she'd put a sign up asking that they return the baby Jesus.

I told her that I was hoping and praying that somebody was just playing a prank and that they would hopefully return baby Jesus on Christmas day. I can hope and pray can't I? I do hope it gets returned but I know that isn't likely.

In the meantime, I went to the hardware store, bought some steel chain and padlocks. She watched my lo while I strung everything and chained it up so they couldn't walk away with any more of her Nativity.

I'd almost want to buy her another baby and return it without telling her. Maybe on Christmas?

Teenagers. They have no concept about her age or how cruel it is. It's a common prank, actually. Sad but true.

I thought about that but she bought it as part of a complete set. She paid $90 for the set of the three. I might look around and see if I can find just the baby Jesus online.
