Re: Length of labor and baby's position question?
Oh it definitely makes a difference.
1st was posterior 5.5 hours of labor. I still can't believe it was that fast for a 1st baby AND posterior. 2nd was positioned perfectly 4.5 hours of labor, out in 2 pushes, I would actually describe his labor as easy. 3rd was posterior again and I just would not progress past 8cm for HOURS 17.5 hours of labor, she finally turned and was out in 3 pushes. If she had been properly positioned from the beginning I bet it would have been a super fast labor. |

Re: Length of labor and baby's position question?
All of my full term babies were OP ("sunny-side up") - except DS2 who was breech and a csec, so that doesn't count.
DD - spontaneous ROM, 19.5 hours labor, pushed for 3 hours. DS1 - pit induction, 9 hours labor, pushed for 1 hour. DS3 - spontaneous labor, 7 hours, pushed for 20 minutes. I'd love to see if having a correctly positioned baby makes a difference in length of labor or intensity, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

Re: Length of labor and baby's position question?
I think that labor with a well positioned baby baby should Rarely last longer than 24 hours, but posterior labors often take a while. Also, stay mobile! It can make a huge difference with a baby that need s to turn.
