Potty training question

DS is 19mo and we are thinking about potty training him-my question is does he learn sitting down or standing up at first? We have no clue about anything!

We did sitting first with a small potty. He peed all over the little seats for big potties and wouldn't relax enough to use the regular toilet seat. It was a nice for the transition to standing, too, because he didnt have to balance on a stool.
