not as far off as you think. these were only my second knitting project. prior to these all i had made was an infinity scarf. i got practice knitting in the round with the scarf, and then to do the longies i just referenced knittinghelp.com videos for short rows and grafting. i used the Evie Pants pattern, while it's not a free pattern, is totally worth the $7 and is easy to follow.

i say if you want to try it, go for it. the worst that happens is you have a pair with some mistakes (i call it 'character') and afterwords you feel more confident and ready to conquer the next pair.

for now i'm going to take a longies break and work on some scarfs for Christmas presents, but next i want to make a skirty for spring.

ps~ i started by learning to knit in the round, for what it's worth, i think it is easier to learn this way vs. knitting flat, but that's just from my experience. i've had so many people say i was a little overly ambitious trying to start out knitting in the round, but it clicked with me.

My scarf was my second project. I'm interested in knitting in the round. Somehow it makes more sense to me too after watching several videos.

Might just have to try a par!

Fantastic job! What pattern did you use?

I started my first pair over Thanksgiving, but with Christmas gift making, I have barely had 5 minutes to continue working on them. I was hoping to get them done before Christmas, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Re: my first longies

i used the Evie Pants pattern. i wanted to also make a christmas pair but didn't find any wool yarn that i liked in that color scheme, plus with making several gifts this year (scarfs, hats, headbands, etc) i am on a time crunch for Christmas

i think after the holiday i'm going to focus on some spring knits (more longies, skirties, etc)
