Re: Best NB diapers that wont break the bank !

For cheapies, you'll definitely want to go with prefolds/flats and covers. Someone had an awesome thread here that covered diapering a newborn for $17 - terry washcloths from walmart and homemade wool covers. Alvas would be another cheap option that are "easy."

I've managed to build up a NB stash for mine due in May that has a lot of variety. I don't mind spending a little more because I've had time to watch for really good sales. That way I can use and enjoy them and re-sell when I'm done. Good quality and brand NB dipes keep their value well. And even if I don't get tons of money back I'll still have a heck of a lot of fun cloth diapering a newbie from birth. I think of it as entertainment money.

The ones in my stash that I'm most excited about are the swaddlebees simplex, wool covers, and tots bots tini fit. I think those will hold on to their value fairly well too.

I love bg XS diapers. I have seen mamas on here sell them for around 7 dollars. Same with nanas bottoms if that is what you're looking for. I didn't much like lil joeys. My little guy peed through them in 30 mins. Just depends on what kind of diapers you like. I like aios they are the most like sposies

I got small covers and prefolds, with newborn snapless gmd workhorse. My boys cords fell off fast so that wasn't really a worry. the fitteds give extra protection around skinny legs, when small covers are a little big, but you don't have to have a whole stash, just he fitteds and they are only $5.

Did you see GroVia newborn all in ones are 3 for $30 in discontinued prints! they're normally $14.95 each which is still a great price for an all in one, but this is basically buy two get one free, and they're still cute prints. It's a pretty cheap way to add some convenience and variety to your stash.

There are several fb co-ops running nb diapers, or will run nb diapers again in the next few months.

This one has a THX nb that closes today, but they have said they will do another in the future, but they also have several other diapers running.

If I had to do the newborn stage all over again and on a budget, I would have just gotton a bunch of alva bamboo inserts and some good newborn covers. They are super trim, and absorbant but you would have to fold over the rise. They would last birth to potty though and still trim on newborns. My DS was never an explosive poooper though, like I've always heard about so covers re never an issue for us.
