Where do i start?
I'm nursing my 20 month old and we were NTNP for half a year and TTC for half a year, with no luck. What kind of doctor do I see for fertility help? OB, family doc, fertility specialist? Thoughts?

Are you charting? My lp was too short while breastfeeding my oldest to get pregnant. Charting would help you know if you have a lp issue.

I used to chart temp wise, but stopped. I still wake up to nurse at 3 or 4 so there wasn't a clear pattern. I do ovulate late, according to opks. Isn't there something that could be done for short LP?

How many days do you typically get past ovulation? You can try OTC progesterone cream during your lp. That helped mine stretch out a couple extra days. You can call your pcp and ask for labs including prolactin to be run.

Re: Where do i start?
Some people can't get pregnant while breastfeeding, I have a friend who has 3-4 years between her children cause she doesnt get pregnant until children wean (and she nurses them til they self wean I believe) and I am by no means saying you should stop breastfeeding at all. I nurse my little ones til they wean themselves and love it that way

Re: Where do i start?
I had LP issues while nursing, too.
Some women are just really sensitive to the prolactin you make while nursing. Depending on how old you are, you could ask your family doc for a referral to a fertility specialist but (unfortunately) I imagine one of the first things they will tell you to do is to stop nursing if you want to get pg. Blech. Have you tried any supplements? Vitex, maca, B6, RRL tea?

Re: Where do i start?
Are you listing weight? That I think was a big part of getting pregnant again not that w were ttc. I was weight wise more and once I list weight it helped.some I read could be some can't get pregnant bfing as well as not. More times helps too. Peninsula our evening Prim rose oil helped first for us together...

Re: Where do i start?
Unfortunately it might be due to higher prolactin due to nursing. Any doctor is going to ask you to wean first. I too ovulated late in my cycle if at all when nursing. I did get pregnant though. I would talk to your GP first. Tell him/her you are indeed ovulating late in your cycle according to OPKs and would like to have a cycle day 3 panal done testing your prolactin, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, FSH, and LH. Then after you 'o' you want to come back in for a secon progesterone test to see the strength of the 'o' - it should be above 10.

I agree. Weaning was the very first step for me. Before they could get a grip on what my body was doing in its natural state/ I had to let it BE in its natural state. To be honest, it made sense to me. If I wanted medical help, how could I consider even asking if I myself was causing the fluxes. Breastfeeding in some women naturally delays everything. For me/ having children changed me- forever. I don't know if I will every cycle regularly. But I had to wean to discover that,

Weight wise, I'm thinner than I've ever been - 10 lb below my pre-preg weight and exactly normal (used to be on high side of normal). I used vitex and b complex to encourage AF, but I'm really bad at taking vitamins. My LP is 8-9 days, just a few short of whats normal, so progesterone cream could work. I'm super healthy, I just know it's related to BFing. Which kinda sucks, but I'm not going to jeopardize my current baby for a potential baby. So it looks like we're giving up on TTC for now. Back to NTNP and letting natural child spacing take over.
