Depends on how big your child is. My girl just turned four and just reached 35 lbs. but she is in the minority. I would say buy a carseat that rfs to 40 if you want to rf until 4.

We already have seats that RF to 40 lbs. I was just seeing if the majority needed that weight limit.

Yes. DS hit 35lbs at about 3.5 I think...maybe closer to 4, but we would have needed a 40lb limit to solidly get to 4.
DD will probably be in 3rd grade before she's 40lbs. |

Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?
I didn't make it to age 4 with DD1. She hit 36lbs just before she turned 3, which was just past the limit of her seat so she turned FF. I weighed her about 4 months after she turned 3 and she was 40lbs. She's only just now pushing the 45lbs mark at 2 months past her 5th birthday.
DD2 is trending much smaller than her sister was, so 40lbs should get her easily to 4.

I needed the 40lb limit to RF to age 3, and am hoping (but not sure) that 45 will get us to age 4. DS is 39 lbs and turned 3 in October.

Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?
I would have had I known about extended rearfacing with dd. She bit 40lbs at 4 years give or take a few months.
Ds1 didn't hit 40lbs to closer to 5-6. Ds2 is 28lbs fully dressed at 18 months. So he only needs to gain 12 pounds to reach 40lbs.
